We first met Rick Frishman in 2006 at Armand Morin’s ‘Big Seminar’ after following his career since 2000. That was three years from formally launching Morgan James Publishing. He is an industry leader who is well respected and well connected.
Rick started in Publishing when he co founded ‘Planned Television Arts’ (PTA) in 1970.
When we met it was an instant friendship. Rick taught us all the things we didn’t know about publishing. Rick even became an early investor in Morgan James in 2007 then finally in 2008, after retiring from PTA (now Media-Connect), became our first named Publisher.
We immediately started to benefit from the relationship. Not coincidentally, that same year PW started to pay attention to us. Under Rick’s leadership PW has ranked Morgan James five times on the Publishers Weekly Fast Growing Publisher list highlighting our ability to go up ‘against all odds (2009)’ and our ‘bold decision making (2010)’ as well as our ability ‘to do more with less (2015)’. Publishers Weekly also highlighted Morgan James’ initiative in working with The Authors Guild in making our publishing agreements more ‘author friendly’ with ‘greater transparency (2016)’.
Because of an author connection from Rick, Morgan James was invited to ring the opening bell for NASDAQ on December 18, 2008 to highlight our philanthropy and our giving back nature.
This month Rick will be retiring (November 2016). He will be missed.
We are proud to announce the following will shuffle with him.
Jim Howard, our current Publishing Director, will assume the role of Publisher and Bethany Marshall, our current Assistant Publishing Director, will assume the role of Publishing Director. Both have been with us since before Rick and will fill the roles nicely. Read more about them on our Team Page.
Thanks for letting me ramble today!
