About the Author: Emily Bernath began writing out of her passion for women’s ministry and wanting to be a light to survivors of sexual assault. As a rape survivor herself, she found her life quickly turn away from having everything she thought she wanted and toward feelings of both hopelessness and worthlessness. During this time, she made friends with a group of women who pointed her to God’s light and love for her. Through rediscovering her faith and identity in Christ, Emily has found freedom from the shame and condemnation in this world, and she hopes to be able to help others find that same freedom. In being open about being a rape survivor, it became apparent to her how many other people experience similar feelings of shame and disgust, and allow things that aren’t true about them to define them.
Emily is the author of Broken Lenses: Identifying Your Truth in a World of Lies. She also advocates for sexual assault survivors and serves on the board of Reveal to Heal International; a non-profit that seeks to shine a light on the Biblical truths of God’s love for the broken, oppressed, and victimized. Before beginning her career as an author, she earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in business administration. She currently resides in Salt Lake City, and when she’s not writing, you can find her tutoring, volunteering with her church’s youth group, playing soccer, and making latte art.
