NEW YORK—January 22, 2019—Though it has been nearly five years since releasing her last book, award-winning author, speaker, TV host and national recording artist Shannon Perry never meant to take a hiatus from writing. During the past few years, Perry saw her mother diagnosed with cancer, which she subsequently passed away from in 2017. While her mother was fighting for her life, her father was also diagnosed with cancer, requiring immediate surgery. In the midst of her caretaker role as an only child, Perry continued to speak at conferences and events across the country where she asked women of all ages to describe the most difficult challenges they face on a daily basis. The result of those interactions sparked Perry’s new book, “Grace and Guts: Strategies for Living a Knock-out Life”, set to release January 22, 2019 from Morgan James Publishing.
The twelve issues the book addresses include: overcoming fear, people- pleasing, dealing with addiction, mastering anger, exhaustion, betrayal, insecurity, depression, loneliness, dealing with difficult people, finding purpose, and facing uncertainty. But after these past few years of facing her own personal challenges and disappointments, Perry says writing the book was cathartic for her in many ways.
“There were a lot of times I was on stage speaking or writing a chapter and realizing I wasn’t living out what I was teaching,” says Perry. “As women, we shoulder a lot of emotional responsibility for our families and the people we love, and sometimes we need to step back and remind ourselves that we simply can’t do it all. I know I had to learn that lesson myself.”
Perry’s background as a counselor is apparent in Grace and Guts as she offers several strategies and techniques to help people navigate through emotional and spiritual struggles.
“This is really a reference handbook of practical ideas on how to handle some of life’s biggest emotional challenges. We had the idea to capture a photo of me with boxing gloves for the book cover because for the past few years, I have felt as if I was often fighting for my sanity, my peace, and my own sense of purpose. We all have our own personal battles every day with one of these twelve core issues, and I hope that this book offers people some tools that will help them gain victory over the things that hold them back from living life to its fullest.”
