NEW YORK—Aug. 24, 2021—Morgan James’ new release, Racing with Aloha: The Inspiring Journey of a Humble Barefoot Maui Boy to Becoming a Champion in the Water by Fred Haywood, shares the story of a young Hawaiian’s experience windsurfing in Ho’okipa. Half memoir, half thrilling adventure tale, Racing with Aloha takes readers on a transcendent journey from magnificent Maui beaches to fast-paced Olympic swimming lanes; from as-yet-undiscovered surf spots of Indonesia to wind-blasted channels of Europe and Africa.

Fred Haywood is a water sport legend—a former Olympic Trials swimmer-turned-champion speed sailor. In his aquatic adventures, Haywood explored undiscovered surf spots, became the world’s fastest windsurfer, and even swam with sharks. In Racing with Aloha: The Inspiring Journey of a Humble Barefoot Maui Boy to Becoming a Champion in the Water readers enjoy never before heard stories from Haywood’s years competing, as well as personal encounters with water sports legends such as Gerry Lopez, Mark Spitz, Laird Hamilton, and more. A special acknowledgement from Kai Lenny, the youngest, most popular water star today, shows the significance of Haywood’s reputation and expertise.

Fred’s story goes beyond sharing his athletic adventures. He reveals to readers the tough but transformative lessons from his dad that taught him to value camaraderie over competition and to take the inevitable losses experienced by any champion in stride. Laced  with heartfelt wisdom and insights on living life with humility and generosity, Racing with Aloha: The Inspiring Journey of a Humble Barefoot Maui Boy to Becoming a Champion in the Water will leave readers both enchanted and inspired.

About the Author: Fred Haywood swam with Mark Spitz, surfed with Gerry Lopez, and pioneered the sport of windsurfing with Laird Hamilton. Legendary Santa Clara swim team coach George Haines coached him to a national championship at seventeen. Fred was a silver medalist backstroker at the 1967 Pan American Games and became a multiple NCAA and American record holder. Fred continued his winning ways when, in 1983, he broke the world speed record in Weymouth, England, and became the fastest windsurfer in the world, a record he held for two years. He was featured in major international news outlets including Life magazine for surfing “the biggest wave in the world” at Ho’okipa on the north shore of Maui. For nearly a decade, countless water sports enthusiasts followed his career. At the age of forty, Fred gave up his sports career to raise a family and sell real estate on his beloved Maui where he resides. He is now one of the most successful realtors on the island and a popular teacher for realtors around the country.
