NEW YORK—October 24, 2017—Morgan James’s new release, Chick Flick: A Novel by Noga Porat, presents the possibilities for young women to become heroes, and details the need to show more intelligent female heroes within both real life and fiction. Intended for women interested in the STEM fields and school educators.

When people think of STEM fields quiet, boring laboratory and field work usually come to mind. The problem with this image is its lack of realism. Work in the STEM fields often involves testing and sampling work in interesting locations and rewarding work with colleagues. Unfortunately, this is not a side of STEM fields that is often shown in the media.

Chick Flick: A Novel approaches both the lack of accuracy in STEM field portrayal and the worrying lack of female heroines who solve problems through intelligence and creativity rather than by looks or charm. This is accomplished through personal experiences and media observation detailed by Noga Porat throughout Chick Flick.

Chick Flick seeks not only to kindle discussion concerning intelligent female heroes and STEM representation. Noga engages readers with fun, warm writing that proves both informative about modern technology and can inspire interest in STEM subjects. Presenting a heroine who utilizes ‘mind over matter’ and work creatively and diligently to solve problems, Noga provides positive, an easily presentable example of intelligent heroine and how her example can prove more effective messages than more common heroine representations.

Written both as a story and a personal journey, Chick Flick wears many cloths in its path for greater knowledge. Such a varied, but well utilized style makes the story both more engaging and entertaining for readers both grown and still growing.

About the Author:

Noga Porat (Nora Born) finished an M.Sc. in the Biochemistry Dept from Tel Aviv University, Israel in 2001, a B.Sc. in 1998 and a B.A. in Philosophy in 1996. She then volunteered in the Veterinary Institute, Israel where she was first exposed to the practices of the Egg Laying Industry (‘The Layers’).

Two Billion male chicks are disposed of and this happens worldwide, yearly. This led Noga to eventually open her own company in 2004, NiKagen Biotech Ltd. The company goal was to develop a method to determine the sex of the chick while still in the egg; in ovo chick sexing. She is still working on developing the prototype and wrote Chick Flick to ignite a public discussion on this issue.
