NEW YORK—February 06, 2018—Morgan James’ new science fiction book release, Ethos: Rise of Malcolm by Aaron Dworkin, is a futuristic novel that explores important themes through compelling characters and a captivating story. The themes and story appeal particularly to teenagers and young adults.
Ethos tells the incredible journey of David, a forty-eight-year-old accountant, and his adopted teenage son Malcolm, who are taken five hundred years into the future, where the planet is known as Ethos. Their hometown of Flint, Michigan still exists, but society has drastically changed, and is engaged in a conflict that will determine the future of the human race. Humans are separated into two groups, the Immortals and the Bereft, who are divided because of their opposing beliefs, and David and Malcolm will be forced to choose a side in this pivotal war.
The central theme of Ethos is humanity’s struggle for purpose, and the process of self-discovery that each individual must go through to discover this purpose. The Immortals believe that each person’s life has a specific purpose, and earn immortality by finding it, but the Bereft choose to die naturally because they reject this idea. This causes David and Malcolm to consider their own beliefs on this issue, and search for a true purpose in their own lives. These characters will not only play a crucial role in humanity’s survival, but also begin a journey of self-discovery that will transform them forever. Through Ethos, readers not only find an interesting and exciting story, but also are challenged to reflect upon these important questions in their own lives.
