Cristina Perez has released her newest book, Red White & Latina: Our American Identity (Morgan James Publishing), which asks the question: “Has America’s great melting pot become the great boiling pot?” followed by an honest discussion of America’s biggest hot button political and social issues.
Perez says she started the book last summer immediately following the Democratic and Republican party national conventions, when she saw the writing on the wall of a country in major distress.
“It’s a little surreal, but not entirely surprising, seeing events come to fruition that I was writing about last summer, months before the presidential election. The tears in our national identity were evident and I immediately thought about the effect this would have on our country’s future,” says the 3-time author, 3-time Emmy winner, TV judge, attorney and mother of a teenage daughter.
In Red, White & Latina, Perez candidly examines a docket of the political and social issues dividing the country the most from both sides. These issues include immigration, racism, terrorism, as well as contributing factors such as social media bullying, political correctness, and nationalism (and anti-nationalism).
Similar to how people know her best, ruling over various TV courtrooms for over 17 years, Perez presents each issue with the facts and then tries it in “the court of public opinion.”
“We’ve seen by now, how dangerous it is to blindly buy into media rhetoric and the opinions of others. With Red, White & Latina I’m challenging people to drop their political and personal biases at the door and really think about each issue and examine the facts,” says the author.
Perez’s bigger reason for writing, as she reveals in the book, is to remind all Americans that today’s atmosphere of dissent and division, is affecting tomorrow’s national legacy.
“My daughter is watching this and so are your children – the personal attacks, the violence, the splitting apart of our country. We are showing them through our words and actions how they should feel about America. This is the legacy we are leaving for them.”
