NEW YORK—July 6, 2021—Morgan James’ new release, Unseen: Uncovering the Invisible Wounds of Military Trauma, by Elisa Escalante, focuses on the trauma veterans face both during and post military service from a mental health technician, veteran and LCSW perspective.

Unseen highlights the hidden trauma veterans experience in and post military service, debunking myths and exposing the truths stemming from the demands of military related missions as well as combat zone missions. Escalante examines how trauma and military adjustment stressors affect individuals on a social, emotional, psychological, and occupational level. Serving Air Force troops and their dependents with mental health concerns during her active-duty career gave her the insight to identify and address the special needs of veterans post military service. She reveals the proper and improper ways veterans deal with their traumatic experiences and explains the stigma associated with seeking mental health attention, especially amongst the veteran community. Additionally, she provides resources and tools to assist and educate veterans, veteran family members, mental health clinicians, and college students looking to help veterans.

Escalante uncovers the invisible wounds military veterans get through their arduous years serving in the armed forces. The physical and emotional scars they incur remain Unseen unless it is discussed and exposed in a non-stigmatizing manner. Readers willing to understand the struggles veterans with mental illnesses face must look beyond the surface to see the wounds.
